10 Prizes at the Mathys!

On Tuesday the 28th November I was fortunate enough to sing at the Sydney Opera House in The Australian Singing Competition's Mathy Final. The Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra along with Brian Castles-Onion were wonderful to work with and made it such a magical experience. With practices in the Opera Studio and at Fox Studios at the Trackdown Theatre, we all had nothing but fun for those few days in Sydney. Congratulations to the Other finalists; Michael Lampard, and Nicol Car and to Sitiveni Talei for winning the Marianne Mathy Scholarship.
We were all lucky enough to go home with several prizes by the end of the competiton. It is so rare that a singing competition for young singers has this much support to offer!

I ended up with 10 prizes;
Guildhall School of Music & Drama Award (1yr in London)
Phoebe Patrick Award ($3,000)
Nell Pascall Award ($3,000)
Universal Music Australia Prize ($3,000 worth of cds & dvds)

Running Bare Prize (worth $1,000)
Haas Award ($500)

Italian Study Trip
I'm Back!!! The study trip to Italy was amazing!! I studied at the Instituto Italiano in Florence and completed 8 weeks of Italian language study. I saw as many performances as I could, including Madama Butterfly. More than anything, I loved the culture shock!! Walking to school past Il Duomo everyday and having to converse in Italian 24/7 was such a valuable and exciting experience. The art, the architecture and the history was just so interesting and it became clear to me that the more I knew, the more I realised there was to discover. I made some wonderful friends and I know that all the language and culture skills, the places I went to and the art I saw will all contribute enormously to my music making.
I hope to continue studying this language and be come as fluent as I possibly can in the following years.
